Bad News, Brooklyn

McCullen introduced Weather Report to a website, which she in turn introduced to me: http://www.pandora.com/. Now, I know all of you guys are so fucking cool that you totally knew about this like back in college before the internet was even invented. You had the pandora.com limited edition picture disc 7″ that was printed in Germany and only distributed via the underground railroad.

Anyway, it’s a free music site where you can tell it some of the bands that you like and it will use science and magic to match your tastes with other sonically similar bands, creating a sort of personalized “hits only” radio station. It’s not bad while you’re at work, and it’s free. Theoretically you might even discover a band that you didn’t know you would totally love. For example, when I built a station that combined Belle & Sebastian, Broken Social Scene, and Sufjan Stevens, pandora kindly informed me through the medium of a scientifically-generated algorithmic playlist that I might also like:

Hootie and the Blowfish

SCIENCE!
